Leoland...
I was lucky enough to be accepted into Art College at 16, where I studied Graphic Design for four years. After graduating, I stepped briefly into the world of graphics, but quickly found it too structured for my creative spirit. So my brother (a fellow artist) and I set up our own venture, R Werk. We began with paintings, then found ourselves customizing Dr. Martens boots with hand-painted designs for their Covent Garden store in London. That unexpected opportunity turned into six vibrant years of collaboration, before we moved on to our own solo projects.
Over time, I’ve realised that I work best with my multi dimensional friends and trust the process. It all started with black biro drawings - intricate, instinctive pieces that took me on subconscious journeys to places far more curious and alive than everyday reality.
That same spontaneous energy has now found its way into my ceramics. I never quite know where a piece will go and that mystery is what keeps me creating.
I have many interests which are broad and always evolving - from the romance of the Pre-Raphaelites, the elegance of Art Nouveau, to the richness of Asian & African cultures, also the ever-changing worlds of fashion, music, architecture, animation & nature.
I stay open, always listening, always looking. The spark can come from anywhere.
